The Russian Ministry of Defense on Sunday, December 19, showed a video of the elimination of the Lancet kamikaze drones of a Syrian militant known as Sniper Tou, as well as field commander Abu al Walid.
The video is posted on his Telegram channel by Russia 1 TV journalist Alexander Rogatkin. The full-length version will be shown on the News of the Week program.
The video is about an operation carried out by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in April 2020. It was attended by the Russian operator of loitering ammunition Andrei, who managed to eliminate a militant of the terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in the Russian Federation). A member of the group previously stated on the Internet that using an anti-tank missile system of American origin, TOW destroyed about 30 tanks and helicopters of the Syrian government forces.
“Literally two days before our special operation, this militant fired at a convoy of the Syrian Arab Republic and burned two trucks. After that, we began to conduct aerial reconnaissance of the area, and in the course of reconnaissance we discovered a calculation of anti-tank guided missiles under the leadership of this fighter, ”said an officer of the Special Operations Forces of the RF Armed Forces.
The Russian drone detected the crew as it deployed the rocket launcher into position. As the serviceman specified, at that moment it was impossible to determine the location of the “Sniper Tou” itself. In this regard, it was decided to strike at the pickup, which contained the ammunition of the installation.
Members of the group heard the falling Lancet, but did not manage to run back to a safe distance. They all died from shrapnel wounds. The next blow from a kamikaze drone hit the rocket launcher itself.
On the same day, field commander Abu al-Walid was killed in the province of Hama.
“A loitering munition was launched, it [боевик] literally in a couple of seconds I found him both visually and acoustically, but did not have time to react, and there was a direct hit on this commander, ”Rogatkin said.
At the end of October, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia that the Russian Navy will receive loitering ammunition – this is the official name of the kamikaze UAV.
The drones are planned to be used to strike at sea and ground targets. In particular, such products are effective against light boats and motor boats – they are actively used by saboteurs and various terrorist organizations. Also, loitering ammunition is indispensable with the support of the marines and special forces operating on the shore.
In the same month, servicemen of a Russian military base held exercises in the mountains of Tajikistan to eliminate a sabotage group of a conditional illegal armed group. It is noted that the exercises were conducted at the Lyaur training ground. The servicemen used modern reconnaissance and surveillance equipment.
