The rector of the Samara university was detained on suspicion of large-scale fraud. This was announced on Monday, December 20, by the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the region.
“Employees of the first department for the investigation of particularly important cases of the investigation department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Samara region charged the rector of the Samara State Economic University with a crime under Part 3 of Art. 30, part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale), ”the message says.
According to the investigation, in November 2020, the suspect, together with the deputy head of the research and innovation department of the scientific research organization, entered into fictitious contracts. Under the terms of these agreements, the university acted as the executor of research work. At the same time, these works were actually carried out by processing previously written works and falsifying the results of sociological research.
“Thus, after the signing of the acceptance and transfer certificates of the work performed, the customers transferred funds in the amount of 3,500,000 rubles to the settlement accounts of the educational institution,” the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee noted.
Then the accused illegally paid cash bonuses to the employees of the educational institution, who actually did not perform the work. She appropriated part of the money paid for herself.
On September 2, the director of one of the institutes of the MSTU “Stankin” Grigory Zusev was detained in Moscow in the case of multi-million dollar embezzlement of investment money. After carrying out investigative actions with him, the investigators applied to one of the capital’s courts with a petition for the election of restraint in the form of detention against Zusev.
According to a law enforcement source, after the arrest, Zusev confessed to the investigators as part of the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, in which he gave detailed information about the crime he had committed. The investigation of the criminal case continues.
