The Bolshoi Theater has given up online ticket sales for the Nutcracker ballet

All tickets for the third and final round of sales for the Nutcracker New Year’s ballet at the Bolshoi were sold through the box office, online sales were not available. On December 21, the press service of the ballet told Izvestia about this.

“This was done to limit the activity of dealers,” press attache Katerina Novikova told Izvestia.

According to her, it was decided to sell the seats live, because “it is more difficult for resellers to operate this way than online.”

In addition, the press attache said that due to the influx of visitors on the day when online sales started, the site stopped working twice due to system problems.

It is clarified that the ticket offices also sold returned tickets and unredeemed reservation, which is registered with official organizations and sponsors.

A source in the theater explained that unredeemed reservations can be up to a third of all tickets for The Nutcracker: the country’s main theater has many obligations to government agencies and investors.

As follows from the sales rules of the Bolshoi Theater, one order can contain no more than four tickets: two for adults and two for children. The price at the box office varies from 2 thousand to 20 thousand rubles. From dealers the ticket price reaches 100 thousand rubles.

Earlier, on December 13, it became known that speculators have been buying and reselling tickets at the Bolshoi Theater for many years at a price several times higher than the face value. This reduces the number of tickets that ordinary viewers can buy.

As REN TV reported, initially a certain number of seats are allocated in the theater for employees of numerous theater-friendly organizations. However, guests often refuse the seats intended for them, but these tickets do not go back on sale – at the box office or on the website – but go to dealers who already have the personal data of those who are ready to “buy a ticket to the New Year’s miracle” for any money.

At the same time, it was noted that the site remains the only opportunity to buy tickets at face value, for example, for a large family. Since there is a strict rule at the box office: no more than two tickets for adults and no more than two tickets for children per person.

On November 27, it was reported that a queue was lined up at the Bolshoi Theater box office for tickets for The Nutcracker. In this regard, speculators began selling tickets for the performance. According to the TV channel, the reseller tells potential buyers that there are allegedly no tickets at the box office. At the same time, he explains that first you need to get QR codes and the result of a PCR test for coronavirus.

The Bolshoi Theater will perform the Nutcracker ballet from December 22 to January 6.
