The inclusion of the short animated film BoxBallet by Anton Dyakov in the Oscar shortlist is not surprising, director Andrei Kravchuk believes. He announced this to Izvestia on Wednesday, December 22.
“I am very happy for the Russian cartoon BoxBallet by Anton Dyakov. I am sincerely glad. And I would like to wish them good luck. It is a pity that our film (“Unclenching his fists” – “Izvestia”) was not included in the short list. For a long time, our films have not been shortlisted, alas. But life doesn’t end there, ”said the director.
Sergei Dvortsevoy, Director, member of the Film Academy Sergei Dvortsevoy also expressed regret that “Unclenching his fists” was not shortlisted for the film award, as, in his opinion, it was “a worthy and very strong picture.”
“It is very difficult to predict who will win the voting now, because there is no clear favorite. But everyone has a chance. It often happens that a painting that had little wins, ”said Dvortsevoy.
It became known the day before that BoxBallet was shortlisted for the Oscar. A total of 15 films are presented in the Best Animated Short Film category.
At the same time, it became known that Kira Kovalenko’s picture “Unclenching his fists” could not be included in the list of 15 films that would be nominated for an Oscar in the nomination “Best Foreign Language Film”.
The final nominees for the award will be announced on February 8, 2022. The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 27th.
Anton Dyakov was born on March 1, 1980 in Alma-Ata and graduated from Alma-Ata State University with a degree in painter. In 2010 he studied to be an “Animated Film Director” at the Moscow School-Studio SHAR. Created animation short films Bach (2010) and Kostya (2011). Acted as a production designer for the cartoon “Primitive Pope” (2012).
