BOD “Admiral Levchenko” will become part of the Navy by the end of 2022

The large anti-submarine ship (BOD) “Admiral Levchenko” is to enter the fleet by the end of 2022. Sources in the military department told Izvestia that the plan for completing work on the large anti-submarine ship of project 1155 Admiral Levchenko has been approved.

According to the document, the ship should enter the fleet by the end of 2022.

According to sources, gas turbine propulsion engines were repaired at the BOD, cooling units and valves were replaced. Also, onboard electronics and fire-fighting equipment were partially modernized on the ship.

The modernization will make it possible to prolong the service life of one of the most active ships of the Northern Fleet for a long time, Izvestia sources noted. Also, according to the interlocutors of the publication, the issue of installing the latest Russian anti-submarine complex “Answer” on the ship is being considered. In December this year, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov successfully hit an underwater target in the Sea of Japan with such a missile.

“Admiral Levchenko” waited a long time for repair. He parked in the port of Severomorsk back in 2014. Before that, he made a long voyage to the Mediterranean Sea as part of the aircraft carrier group of the Northern Fleet. During it, he operated off the coast of Syria together with the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov”.

BODs of project 1155, although they have been in service for at least 35 years, will still serve, according to the former chief of the Main Staff of the Navy, Admiral Valentin Selivanov.

“These BODs have good driving characteristics, which allows them to stay away from their native shores for a long time,” he told Izvestia.

The BOD belongs to Project 1155 and is considered one of the most effective ships in the fleet to combat submarines. In total, 12 BODs were built according to the project 1155 “Fregat” from 1977 to 1991 (another one was built according to the improved project 1155.1).

“Answer” is ready: one of the largest ships returned to service after eight years
