Ed Sheeran’s song hits 3 billion streams for the first time in Spotify history

The song Shape of You by acclaimed British musician Ed Sheeran has received 3 billion plays on the Internet streaming audio service Spotify and has become the most popular in the world there. This was announced on December 22 by the NME portal.

The performer himself in his Instagram called this news “crazy”. Sheeran did not want to include this 2017 composition on the Divide album, but did so because the label representative insisted on it.

“(This song) was not really meant to make an album. But when I finished writing the song, Ben Cook from my label said that it should be a single, and I wanted the single to be Castle on the Hill. We released both songs at once and … I was wrong then, ”the musician shared.

Shape of You was not Sheeran’s first hit to hit the top streaming service. Castle on the Hill, Happier, Galway Girl, I Don’t Care and Beautiful People have over 1 billion streams. They are included in the Billions Club playlist, writes Life.ru.

As NSN writes, earlier the Spotify press service said that the top ten most listened to Russian performers in 2021 abroad were headed by Russian classic Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

In November, Ed Sheeran won the main prize at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2021 with his song Bad Habits, which won the Best Song nomination. In addition, Sheeran won the Best Performer nomination.
