The Utair airline told Izvestia about the circumstances of the incident that took place during the preparation for takeoff of the plane heading from Tyumen to Yerevan. According to the carrier, an engine surge occurred in preparation for takeoff.
“During the preparation for the takeoff of the Tyumen-Yerevan flight, due to weather conditions, the engine surged and a clap was heard. In the interests of safety, the commander decided to return to the parking lot. We refute the information disseminated in the networks about the explosion of the engine, ”the airline said.
They also explained that, according to the rules, the airline is replacing the aircraft, while passengers are provided with a hotel, food and drinks. The arrival of the reserve aircraft is expected, the departure is scheduled for 17:00 local time, Utair added.
Surge is a stall operation of an aircraft turbojet engine, a violation of the gas-dynamic stability of its operation, accompanied by pops in the gas-air path of the engine due to the counterflow of gases, smoke from the engine exhaust, a sharp drop in thrust and powerful vibration that can destroy the engine.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the takeoff of the Tyumen-Yerevan flight was interrupted. It was noted that during the takeoff run of the Utair aircraft, the aircraft commander reported a suspicion of engine surge, after which he slowed down and stopped the aircraft.
The negotiations between the aircraft commander and the ground services of the Tyumen airport Roshchino were at the disposal of Izvestia.
On the fact of the incident, the Tyumen Transport Prosecutor’s Office organized an audit of the implementation of the legislation on flight safety.
