The defendant in the arson case at the Lenta hypermarket on Pushkin Street in Tomsk has been charged. This was reported on December 26 by the “Ministry of Internal Affairs Media” with reference to the Russian MIA Administration for the Tomsk region.
“Investigators of the SO OMVD of Russia in the Oktyabrsky district of the city of Tomsk opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 30 h. 2 tbsp. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Attempt to intentionally destroy other people’s property by arson”). Currently, the defendant has been charged with the incriminated act and he was detained in accordance with Art. 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, ”the message says.
The fire in “Lenta” on Pushkin Street occurred earlier, on December 25. Pyrotechnics caught fire in the store, firecrackers and fireworks began to explode. CCTV cameras recorded the fact of arson by the buyer.
Later, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Tomsk region reported that the fire was liquidated, visitors and personnel were evacuated, there were no injuries.
The suspect was detained in hot pursuit, he turned out to be a local resident born in 1994. According to preliminary data, the man, while in the hypermarket, took a flammable liquid and a gas burner from the counter, after which he poured a combustible mixture over pyrotechnic products and set the fire on fire.
Prior to that, on December 21, a fire broke out in another Tomsk hypermarket “Lenta”, on Elizarovykh Street. The fire collapsed about a third of the building, including the roof. It took the evacuation of 200 people, no one was hurt. The fire also led to explosions of pyrotechnics.
On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was initiated under the article “Intentional destruction or damage to property.”
The arson suspect was detained. According to preliminary data, the man was an employee of one of the contractors in the hypermarket; due to a conflict with the managers of the retail chain, he poured flammable liquid over the goods and set them on fire. He was arrested for two months.
