The allowed amount of alcohol in the blood while driving should be reduced. This opinion was expressed on December 27 by the deputy chairman of the government, the chairman of the road traffic safety commission Marat Khusnullin.
In an interview with Vedomosti, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that this measure would make the traffic environment safer and reduce deaths.
“I believe that it is necessary to reduce the number of per milles of alcohol in the blood while driving. After all, there is a direct dependence of mortality and accidents on the amount per mille of alcohol in the blood, “- said the source of the newspaper.
According to him, the percentage of accidents “among those who drank a glass of beer” is minimal, in contrast to drivers with one ppm of alcohol in their blood.
Also, as Khusnullin said, a decrease in the non-penalty threshold for speeding from 20 km / h to 10 km / h is being discussed. As the chairman of the road safety commission noted, more than 60 thousand people die in road accidents a year.
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded that so far “there is no unambiguous decision either on speed or on alcohol.”
At the moment, the blood of drivers can contain no more than 0.3 g of alcohol per liter (0.3 ppm).
Earlier, on October 12, the Ministry of Health told Izvestia about the possible introduction of criminal liability for drunk driving.
On the same day, Khusnullin instructed the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to develop proposals to introduce criminal liability for the very fact of drunk driving and life-long deprivation of rights for repeat offenders by November 1. Currently, the maximum allowable rate is 0.16 mg alcohol per liter of exhalation, or 0.3 g per liter of blood.
