The Navy will receive a mini-missile cruiser “Admiral Chabanenko” at the end of 2023

The mini-carrier-carrier of the hypersonic Zircons will return to service at the end of 2023. According to Izvestia’s sources in the military department, the Defense Ministry has agreed on a plan to modernize the unique ship of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Chabanenko.

Since the early 1990s, it has been one of the most powerful representatives of the Russian Navy. After the upgrade, it will be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles and unique Kh-35 torpedo missiles.

Currently, work on the ship has already begun, Izvestia sources in the military department said. The hull is being renovated now. It is expected that in January “Chabanenko”, which is located at a shipyard in the Murmansk region, will move to Murmansk, where its modernization will begin.

After being upgraded, the ship will become one of the standard carriers of the Zircon hypersonic missile, the tests of which are nearing completion.

In addition, the upgraded ship will carry an impressive arsenal. In particular, the Kalibr and Kh-35 cruise missiles, as well as the unique Answer torpedo missiles, capable of hitting submarines at a distance of tens of kilometers. This will make the Chabanenko one of the most versatile ships in the entire Navy: it can equally effectively destroy sea, coastal, air and underwater targets.
