Dog handlers named the dangers for dogs on New Year’s Eve

It is important for dog owners to remember that on New Year’s Eve, pets can suffer from injuries sustained when playing with decorations, as well as when eating foods that are contraindicated for animals. This is stated in a press release from the Russian Cynological Federation, received by Izvestia on Monday, December 27.

“I would like to remind all dog breeders once again: do not walk the dog on New Year’s Eve, do not leave your festive table unattended, carefully choose New Year’s decorations. The fact is that sometimes in the hustle and bustle we forget about our pets, who really need safety during this period. In order not to overshadow the holiday, take care of the safety of your pets in advance, ”said President of the Federation Vladimir Golubev.

As the head of the federation noted, on the night of January 1, it is better not to go out with a pet, because the roar of exploding pyrotechnics frightens animals. In addition, on New Year’s Eve, the maximum number of dog shoots is regularly recorded. The specialist advises taking a walk with the dog in advance, and staying at home in the evening.

Not a single owner of a dog can predict how much the animal will be frightened if fireworks explode nearby. For this reason, the consequences of such an incident are unpredictable, the expert emphasized.

In addition, a tight collar will help prevent the pet from escaping, Golubev said. In addition, you should put on the animal an “address label” containing the contact details of the owner.

Treats from the New Year’s table are also a serious cause for concern, the expert said. The animal can have serious gastrointestinal problems. Fatty, spicy, fried, and smoked foods can be toxic and dangerous to your dog.

Also, you can not feed the pet with chocolate and fruits, the dog is not able to digest them. Grapes, raisins are also contraindicated for dogs, as they can cause the development of acute renal failure.

Tubular bones should be excluded, Golubev specified, adding that their small fragments can cut through the intestinal walls of the animal.

If the owner seeks to protect the dog on New Year’s, then it is best to abandon electric garlands, tinsel, and glass toys. For example, when an animal plays with a garland, an electric shock can occur, Golubev added.

Earlier, on December 23, experts interviewed by MK-Ivanovo said that a Christmas tree and a garland could become a source of danger for the dog. It can also catch fire if the dog knocks over a candle or is able to open the oven.
