The Face Pay service will become available to passengers of the Moscow Central Circle and Diameters (MCC and MCD) in 2022. This was told by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov in an interview with RBC, published on December 28.
At the same time, the official found it difficult to answer the question of how things are going with the launch of the system in land-based urban transport. He noted that it is more difficult to introduce it on buses, electric buses and trams, because there are no turnstiles.
According to Liksutov, during the existence of Face Pay, more than 1 million passengers have registered in the personal account of the Moscow Metro and Moscow Transport applications, and more than 50 thousand people have used the service.
“The main thing for us is the comfort and safety of passengers, thanks to smart cameras we were able to launch the Face Pay fare payment service – through 470 cameras at the turnstiles,” Liksutov says.
In an interview, the Deputy Mayor also spoke about the positive effect of the launch of the Big Circle Line (BCL). According to him, after the opening of the first 10 stations, about 9 thousand cars per day stopped driving on the city’s roads.
“When we close the BCL ring, it will be possible to deduct about 20 thousand more cars. This should be multiplied by 2.5 trips per day on average that the car makes. It turns out a rather large figure that will have a positive effect on the unloading of roads, ”added Liksutov.
The Face Pay fare payment system was launched at all Moscow metro stations on October 15, 2021. To use the system, you need to download the Moscow Metro or Moscow Transport application. Then, in the Face Pay section, upload a photo of the face and link a bank card. On the subway, a passenger walks up to a turnstile with a black round sticker on it and looks at the camera. A “smart” device identifies it, and the fare is debited from the card.
Also, residents of the capital can still use a Troika card, a United travel ticket, a Muscovite social card and a bank card to pay for subway fares.
