Foreign digital companies did not comply with the requirements of the law on “landing”, which comes into force on January 1, told Izvestia in Roskomnadzor. It provides for the opening of offices in the Russian Federation authorized to interact with citizens and authorities. Also, as of December 27, none of the companies registered a personal account on the department’s website, as prescribed by the law, and did not start a special form for contacting Russian users, the department added.
For now, foreign digital companies ignore the requirements of the law, Roskomnadzor told Izvestia. The list of companies that should open offices in the Russian Federation and interact with users and Roskomnadzor via the Internet was published by the department at the end of November. It includes 13 foreign companies that own 22 information resources. These are Google (among its services – Google Play, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Chat, Gmail), Apple (iCloud, App Store, Apple Music), Meta Platforms, in the past Facebook (actually a social network, Instagram, WhatsApp), as well as Twitter, TikTok, Telegram, Zoom, Viber, Spotify, Likeme Pte. ltd (Likee), Discord, Pinterest, Twitch.
Companies that are in dialogue with Roskomnadzor and are working to “land”, the federal service is ready to give time to complete the necessary measures, they noted. What are the terms of the transition period and what organizations are in question, the department did not specify.
