Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Kirill Dmitriev head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) for another five years. The corresponding decree was published on the Kremlin’s website on Thursday, December 30.
The decree comes into force on January 17, 2022.
Dmitriev has been the head of RDIF since the foundation was established in 2011. He was appointed by the President of Russia, a member of the APEC and BRICS business councils, a member of the supervisory board of Alrosa and the boards of directors of Transneft, Rostelecom, Gazprombank, Mother and Child, Russian Railways, as well as the Mariinsky Theater Board of Trustees. Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov, the Russian Institute of Theater Arts GITIS, as well as the History of the Fatherland Foundation. He is the vice-president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Earlier, on December 21, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted the contribution of the RDIF in the promotion of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus. Peskov recalled the high level of competition in the world with global companies with budgets comparable to the budgets of most countries in the world. According to him, the fact that “RDIF has carried the vaccine through all these obstacles, seventy-something countries of the world have approved this vaccine and are already using it at home – this is a huge success.”
Prior to that, on December 10, Putin congratulated RDIF on its 10th anniversary. As the head of state noted, over the past years, RDIF has earned high authority and trust from business and foreign partners, and has also done a lot to attract foreign capital to the country. Putin pointed out that it was the RDIF that played a proactive role in organizing the production of test kits for determining the coronavirus and drugs for its treatment. Also, the President of the Russian Federation noted the fund’s contribution to the development and registration of the world’s first vaccine against COVID-19 “Sputnik V”.
