The helicopter Mi-8 EMERCOM of Russia evacuated the crew of the ship “Grigory Lovtsov” who sent the distress signal. This was announced on Wednesday, January 5, at the press service of the department.
“As a result of the highly professional and well-coordinated work of the EMERCOM helicopter crew and rescuers, the sailors were evacuated aboard the aircraft and delivered to the city of Nikolaevsk-on-Amur,” explained Viktor Payevshchik, senior group of the search and rescue team of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Khabarovsk Territory.
It is noted that the rescue was complicated by the wind, darkness and fragile ice. Because of this, the helicopter had to descend to an extremely low altitude. The sailors were lifted aboard the Mi-8 on a rope.
The department also noted that the condition of the crew is assessed as satisfactory, they do not need medical assistance.
Earlier, on January 4, the crew of the cargo ship “Grigory Lovtsov” in the Sea of Okhotsk sent a distress signal and requested evacuation due to ice formation. Onboard there were eight crew members. The emergency services reported that the vessel was trapped in ice in the area of the Shantar Islands in the Sea of Okhotsk, 20 km from the coast.
