On the night of January 7, eyewitnesses filmed a large meteorite flying over the Krasnodar Territory. This was reported by the KP-Kuban newspaper.

“We were walking with my family along the embankment in Abrau-Dyurso (a village in the Krasnodar Territory. – Ed.), I accidentally raised my eyes to the sky, and then the brightest meteor. Like a trace from a fireworks! This is the first time in my life that I have seen it, ”said the interlocutor of the publication, Evgenia Ivanova.

As the newspaper notes, it is noteworthy that the meteorite flew by on the night of Christmas. Many eyewitnesses have compared the cosmic body with the Star of Bethlehem, which marked the birth of Jesus Christ.

According to sources, the meteorite was seen on the Black Sea coast and in the central part of the region.

Earlier, on January 2, Nikolai Zheleznov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy (IPA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, said that the inhabitants of Russia in 2022 will be able to see a total lunar and partial solar eclipse, two supermoons, and four starfalls.

On the same day, astronomer Alexander Yakushechkin said that the maximum activity of the first meteor shower of the year of the Quadrantida will fall on January 3-4, conditions for observing meteors will be ideal.
