Investigative Committee opened a case after the death of a policeman during the shooting near Kurgan

On January 8, the Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kurgan Region opened a criminal case after the death of an employee of the patrol and guard service of the Mishkinskoye police station.

Earlier it was reported that a local resident opened fire on a company car. One policeman died on the spot, another was taken to a medical facility with a wound.

“A criminal case has been initiated on the basis of a crime under Art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer) “, – said in the message of the Investigative Committee.

According to investigators, on the night of January 8, a 44-year-old man fired several times from a hunting carbine at law enforcement officers who were sitting in a UAZ car parked near the district police department. The incident took place on Pervomayskaya Street in the village of Mishkino.

According to Izvestia, there were three law enforcement officers in the car – police sergeant Denis Mikhalev, junior sergeant and trainee. The offender fired about twenty shots from the Saiga carbine, as a result of which Mikhalev, who was driving, died on the spot. The attacker took his service weapon.

Officers of the Russian Guard arrived to the aid of the police. However, the attacker refused to surrender and continued shooting. As a result of the shootout, he was wounded, and later he died in the hospital.

One of the National Guards also asked for medical help.

According to preliminary data, the attacker worked as a security guard on a rotational basis in Novy Urengoy. The carbine belonged to him, he had a permit for this weapon. Previously, the offender was convicted of theft.

The deceased 26-year-old police sergeant Denis Mikhalev worked in the internal affairs bodies since May 2020. He is survived by a wife and two sons. The policeman’s family will be assisted.
