Nizhny Novgorod handed over the title of the New Year’s capital of Russia to Novosibirsk

Nizhny Novgorod handed over the title “New Year’s Capital of Russia – 2023” to Novosibirsk. The ceremony took place on January 9 at the Nizhny Novgorod fair, the press service of the governor and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region reported.

At the festive event, the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, presented a symbol – a filigree snowflake – to the vice-mayor of Novosibirsk Anna Tereshkova.

“Today we are passing this honorary title to Novosibirsk, and this is especially symbolic, since our cities are very similar. In fact, the New Year’s baton is being transferred to the same large industrial and educational center as Nizhny Novgorod, where many active and interesting people live, ”Shalabayev said.

Tereshkova, in turn, said that the transfer of the title is significant for the development of tourism. She thanked the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod for the meeting and invited the residents of the city to visit next year.

“Personally, I will take away from Nizhny Novgorod feelings of warmth, kindness and memories of the fabulous atmosphere that the organizers have created and presented to residents and all guests of the city. We are expecting Nizhny Novgorod residents to visit us next year. We hope that we will also be able to pleasantly surprise everyone, ”said the vice-mayor of Novosibirsk.

The New Year’s Capital of Russia festival was held in the center of Nizhny Novgorod. After it, the New Year ice show “Sleeping Beauty. The Legend of Two Kingdoms “from the director and figure skater Tatiana Navka. A fair house with a light projection became the backdrop for the show. The main role in the production was played by figure skater, Olympic champion Alina Zagitova.

Recall that the festive program of the “New Year’s Capital of Russia – 2022” started in Nizhny Novgorod on December 11 with a parade of fairy-tale heroes on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. During the festival, several ice shows were shown: a gala concert at the fair and The Nutcracker by director Ilya Averbukh, Ruslan and Lyudmila and The Sleeping Beauty by Tatiana Navka. On the main street of the city, passers-by were entertained by street theaters for a month.

The main site of the festival – the Nizhny Novgorod Fair – will work in the same festive format for about 10 more days. The fairground skating rink will be open until March.

The project “New Year’s Capital of Russia” was organized by the Ministry of Culture of Russia in 2012 with the aim of developing event tourism in the country. Previously, the title “New Year’s Capital of Russia” was awarded to Kazan, Vologda, Vladimir, Sortavala, Tambov, Khanty-Mansiysk, Tula, Ryazan and Kaluga.

Earlier, on January 8, it was reported that the train of Santa Claus arrived at the Vitebsk railway station in St. Petersburg. Dozens of children and parents gathered on the platform. Ded Moroz and Snegurochka greeted the guys and wished them a Happy New Year. The solemn event was attended by Vice-Governor Boris Piotrovsky. The festive composition moved out of Veliky Ustyug on January 5. For four days, the train has visited 30 cities in Russia.
