Full-fledged travel to European countries for Russians may become available in the spring, but the discovery of China and Indonesia in the near future should not be expected, experts from the travel industry told Izvestia.
Despite the continuation of the pandemic, the borders of the countries are opening, we are waiting for further mitigations, said Alexan Mkrtchyan, Director General of the Pink Elephant travel agency network.
“I think that Israel, recently opened for vaccinated Russians, will ease the rules of entry already at the end of winter, maximum – in the spring. And about the same time, Europe can fully open up for Russian tourists, ”the expert suggested.
Dmitry Gorin, vice-president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST), agreed with him. He recalled that the European Tourism Commission had previously reported that they hope for a full opening of the EU borders for Russians in the spring of 2022.
A less positive outlook for the countries of Southeast Asia: for example, in 2022, Russian tourists will most likely continue to have no access to travel to China. In this country, Russians massively visited the island of Hainan, as well as cities bordering on the Russian Federation, recalled Aleksan Mkrtchyan. Loyalty should not be expected from countries such as Indonesia and Cambodia.
“Asia has lost millions of dollars without Russian tourists. First of all, these are countries such as China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea. Only recently Vietnam and Thai Phuket have opened for Russians. But now about 10-15 times fewer tourists fly there than before the pandemic. I think that by the end of March the conditions for entry by these two countries will be relaxed, ”he said.
As for the opening of the island of Bali in Indonesia for Russians, there is no talk about it yet, added Aleksan Mkrtchyan.
