The third aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces delivered 86 Russians from Kazakhstan to the Moscow region, as reported by the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday, January 12.

The Il-76 of the Russian Ministry of Defense, which took off from the Alma-Ata airport, landed at the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow. It is noted that 86 Russian citizens were in Kazakhstan on tourist vouchers, on business trips and visiting relatives.

In total, the aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces have already delivered 2009 Russian and foreign citizens from Kazakhstan to Russia.

Earlier, on January 11, two Il-76 aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces arrived from Alma-Ata to Moscow. On board each of them were 145 Russians. The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the removal of Russian citizens “will continue until the task is completed.”

On January 2, protests began in Kazakhstan. Participants of the rallies opposed the rise in prices for liquefied gas. The actions soon escalated into riots.

The situation has become especially aggravated in Alma-Ata. The protesters broke into the administration building, set fire to the building of the prosecutor’s office and the office of the ruling party. Radical protesters armed themselves and began looting, destroying shops, pharmacies and banks in the city.

The presidential administration of the country noted that among the militants operating in Alma-Ata there were snipers with special rifles. The city commandant’s office said that the violent actions of the attackers testified to the terrorist and extremist nature of the bandit formations.

It was reported that during the riots in Kazakhstan, 17 security officials were killed, two of them were beheaded. The country’s health ministry said that the rioters also attacked doctors: more than 10 doctors were injured.

On January 5, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that he had applied to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia) for help in overcoming the terrorist threat. All the CSTO countries responded to the request, they sent collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan and took under protection a number of strategic facilities.

On January 10, Tokayev announced the restoration of constitutional order in Kazakhstan. He noted that the anti-terrorist operation will be completed in the near future. The next day, he said that the withdrawal of CSTO troops from Kazakhstan would begin in two days, the peacekeepers would completely leave the country in 10 days.
