The city of Buenos Aires and, in particular, the Palermo woods, were the setting for the ninth edition of the Bimbo Global Racewhich this year brought together more than 7,000 runners of all ages and will allow to donate more than 100,000 slices of bread to the national and Córdoba food banks.
The Bimbo Global Race It is the largest race for a cause worldwide and is run simultaneously in more than 30 countries around the world. In line with the purpose of feeding a better world, Grupo Bimbo donates 20 slices of bread for each registered runner.
The Buenos Aires race had entrants in the 10K, 5K and 3K categories for adultsof which only the first two were competitive. Later, hundreds of children set off, who signed up for the KIDS section to run 600 metres for those aged 5 to 9, and 1,300 metres for those aged 10 to 13.
“This year we are moving forward, after more than 23 million slices donated in 9 years globally, we are looking to go for more. We are going for more than just a goal or a medal, the challenge is to unite as a community that is growing ever larger, all of us putting in our two cents to continue feeding a better world,” the organizers commented.
Last year, the 2023 edition of the race was held on the Vicente López Coastal Road and brought together more than 3,000 people, which allowed donations 68,220 slices of bread.
According to comments from the Food Bank6 out of 10 children depend on soup kitchens for food in the country. “The food we receive has come from the commercial circuit, but it is perfectly fit to be consumed. Once it arrives at the Distribution Center, we classify it, with the help of volunteers, we store it and distribute it among social organizations,” they explained.
