Seven extremists detained in Ivanovo region

Employees of the FSB department of Russia in the Ivanovo region detained seven extremists who are members of the international religious association “AT-Takfir wal-Hijra” banned in the country. This was reported on January 13 in the press service of the department.

“As a result of operational-search activities and investigative actions, with the support of the department of the Russian Guard in the Ivanovo region, seven members of an association banned in Russia were detained three citizens of Russia and four citizens of Azerbaijan,” the statement said.

A criminal case was initiated against the detainees under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Organization of the activities of an extremist organization.” In addition, the FSB found that two of the detainees are related to the financing of the international terrorist organization “Islamic State”, also banned in Russia. The latter face life imprisonment – a criminal case was opened against them under Part 1.1 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Assistance to terrorist activities”.

On January 12, in Crimea, a new criminal case was opened against five Russian citizens who are members of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (banned in Russia) on the fact of preparing for a violent seizure of power (under part 1 of article 30, article 278 of the Criminal Code). Members of a cell banned in the country were detained on August 17, 2021, when a criminal case was initiated against them under the article “Organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in the activities of such an organization” (Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).

The press service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea reported that the detainees spread terrorist ideology among the population of the peninsula, recruited new members and carried out activities aimed at forcibly changing the constitutional order of the country. During searches, prohibited propaganda materials were found in their possession.
