False security
Anyone who tests themselves shows responsibility. Protects yourself and others. Provided the test is current. Because a corona test is always a snapshot. If you are negative at the time of the test, you may not be when you get the result. Especially if the waiting time is long for PCR tests. Although the PCR test is the gold standard, corona tests are not only about accuracy, but also about speed. And especially in everyday life, it is better to have a quick result when needed than to have a false sense of security. Or to burden laboratories that are already overwhelmed with further PCR samples.
The gold standard
There were times when the PCR tests actually worked quite well. Admittedly, it’s difficult – given the current series of breakdowns in schools and the “Upper Austria gargles” campaign – to remember it. However, the problems that currently exist do not change the fact that PCR tests provide certainty and are reliable (if they are evaluated promptly and correctly). For medical professionals, they are the “gold standard” among corona tests. Especially now, in times of rapidly increasing numbers of infections, it would be important for as many people as possible to continue to have easy access to these tests.
