Mass reports of “mining” 151 schools in the Sverdlovsk region, which occurred on January 12, came from abroad. This was announced on January 13 in the press service of the regional department of the FSB.
“The data available at the FSB of Russia in the Sverdlovsk region indicate that the mass mailing of messages about alleged mining of educational institutions and organizations in the region was initiated by persons located abroad,” the report says.
The department noted that foreign attackers wanted to undermine the socio-political situation in the region by creating panic in society. According to the press service of the regional department of the FSB, massive “mining” caused significant economic damage.
On January 13, all schools were evacuated due to reports of “mining” in the city of Saratov as well. Due to building inspections, classes for students have been cancelled. According to Izvestia, the messages were not sent to educational institutions, but to the city administration and the police through e-mail and calls.
The conclusion that reports of “mining” of schools did not come from Russia since the beginning of 2022 was made on the same day by information security researchers from T.Hunter. After conducting their own investigation, they stated that most of the calls were made from the territory of Ukraine. In addition, experts found several telephone terrorists in Poland and Russia.
