Pope Francis received a delegation from the CGT headed by Pablo Moyano and Hector Daer

He Pope Francis held a meeting with a delegation from the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), headed by Pablo Moyanodeputy secretary of the Truck Drivers’ Union and Hector Daer of the Health Union.

The meeting, held in Santa Barbara, had a relaxed atmosphere, lasted for more than an hour and The union representatives took the opportunity to share with the Pope a critical analysis of the political and socioeconomic situation that Argentina is going through.aggravated by the policies implemented by the Government of Javier Milei.

During the meeting, union leaders expressed their concern about the reforms affecting the labour sector and agreed with Francis on the importance of defending the “dignification of work”, while stressing the need to promote social dialogue between unions, the government and the business sector to find joint solutions to the problems facing the country.

The delegation consisted of: Pablo Moyano(Truckers), Hector and Rodolfo Daer (Health and Food), Andres Rodriguez (State-owned), Gerardo Martinez (Uocra), Jose Luis Lingeri, Christian Jeronimo (Glass) Juan Carlos Schmi (Dredging and Buoyage) and Alejandro Gramajo (UTEP), among others.

The audience with the Pope reinforced the will to continue promoting dialogue as a tool to face the political and social challenges that the country is facing under the Government.

“The summary is the welcome of the Holy Father, who welcomed the demonstration of unity of the CGT and the underlying approach was to mark a path for the defence of the dignity of work, as an axis of social conduct, of human dignity and of course the Pope urged us to defend this issue and to defend social justice as an instrument of balance in modern societies,” said Daer.

He added: “We talked about the world, and noted that the world’s convulsions are not only our situation, but that we live in a world that is eternally in turmoil. The issue of organizing children and young people, starting with the family, and deepening ties of communication with the educational community so that they do not become fodder for drug trafficking, was raised.”
