Workers linked to the State Workers Association (ATE) and dependent on the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), are carrying out a strike this Thursday to protest the “worrying salary situation” in the sector and to “reject the layoffs.” The strike “it will not affect the safety of air operations”according to official sources.
The cessation of services will take place at the 27 airports across the country in two stages: between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. and between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. During this period, only medical and humanitarian flights and state aircraft will be guaranteed.
However, the national government indicated that “the strike announced for this Thursday by ATE-ANAC is a measure by state employees of ANAC, which has no relation to the work of air traffic controllers or impact on operational safety at airports.”
Meanwhile, they specified that, for the moment, “Airport services will not be interrupted thanks to the essentiality of air transport.”
In the first hours of the strike, the head of ATE, Rodolfo Aguiar, targeted the government by claiming that flights were departing and security was at risk.
“We have to denounce the Government for carrying out a reckless attitude. Even though ATE notified this force measure in time and form, the ANAC intervention did not inform the airlines; on the contrary, it sent an order to the airport managers not to issue a notification to the pilots informing them of the force measure, therefore There is a risk to the lives of passengers and the safety of all flights is affected. “at this time,” the union leader said in radio statements.
New aeronautical strike
On Tuesday, the Secretary General of ATE/ANAC, Marcelo Belelli, had indicated that up to that moment they had not had “any communication with the different sectors of the national government, nor with those of Transport, and therefore the strike remains in force.”
“This strike is taking place within the framework of dismissal actions, the process of transferring functions and all of that without any established framework for dialogue that would allow us to move through this stage without conflict,” said Belelli.
He also clarified: “Unlike what some media outlets say, we are not facing a conflict scenario for political or partisan reasons. The conflict is taking place because there have been dismissals and situations that have, in some way, raised red flags in our organization.”
Belelli pointed out that “a cessation of activities will be called between six and twelve noon and between seventeen and ten in the morning” and said: “We appeal to the reasonableness of those who make decisions so that the issue can be addressed with the seriousness that is needed and they call us. We are going to work to achieve a solution to this conflict and to normalize operations for that day. But for the moment the measure remains in force.”
