The Government is moving forward with the application of artificial intelligence in the State

The regulations modify the administrative decision 750/2023published in September last year in the Official Gazette, through which the inter-ministerial table on artificial intelligence was created. On that occasion, the previous administration established that this work space would be coordinated by the Office of the Chief of Ministers.

Administrative Decision 899/2024 artificial intelligence table in the State

Now, Milei’s government has decided that it will be chaired by the Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology of the Office of the Chief of Ministers and coordinated jointly with the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs, which will adopt the necessary measures for its operation.

In this sense, the ministries that make up this space were also modified, given that the Government carried out a restructuring of the State and, above all, of the Cabinet once it assumed power. In this process, it eliminated, for example, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, which became a secretariat.

The list of members was thus made up as follows:

  • Office of the Chief of Ministers
  • Ministry of Defense
  • Ministry of Economy
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship
  • Ministry of Health; Ministry of Security; Ministry of Human Capital
  • Ministry of Justice
  • Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation
  • The Secretariats of Strategic Affairs and Innovation, Science and Technology

The new structure aims to “expand the integration of the aforementioned Interministerial Roundtable” to ensure the alignment of artificial intelligence policies on the path towards innovation and modernization of the State.

The Secretariats of Strategic Affairs and Innovation, Science and Technology “may invite other jurisdictions, public and/or private entities to the inter-ministerial table and are empowered to accept proposals submitted by any entity specialized in the subject matter, or that has an interest in it,” as established by the new administrative decision.

“The artificial intelligence It has become a key element for the modernization and efficiency of the National Public Sector, with a view to allowing the optimization of processes, the improvement in the provision of services and the strengthening of transparency and accountability,” the Government alleges in the recital of the norm.

The roundtable was created to investigate advances in artificial intelligence and develop a program capable of being applied in the various sectors of the State. Likewise, Alberto Fernández’s administration also established that this space will seek to consolidate national technological sovereignty through collaborative work with the areas that have competence in the matter.

“Artificial intelligence represents one of the most significant socio-technological changes of the 21st century,” they argued at the time, highlighting the importance of studying the topic in order to obtain more precise diagnoses that can counteract any negative effects it could have on the national development process.

They also justified the creation of the entity by mentioning that it is one of the powers of the head of the ministerial Cabinet established in article 100 of the National Constitution.
