The situation in Rosario according to the national government

Since his arrival in the government, Javier Milei, together with his Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrichthey implemented the Flag Operation. It was explained as a plan to address “comprehensively various problems related to security”.

Part of the situation in Santa Fe is explained by what happened in Rosario, official sources detail. A few weeks ago, the Ministry of National Security reported a reduction in 62% in the intentional homicide rate in Rosario between January and August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, and a decrease in 73.21% in the areas where the Federal Forces are deployed.

On the other hand, performing the same analysis, the Santa Fe Security Observatory also reported an improvement although with a certain difference from the numbers announced by the government: in detail, a 65.3% drop in homicides in the Rosario department during the first 8 months of 2024.

At the beginning of the month, the national government used its social networks to celebrate: “new milestone in the Bandera Plan: 1 month without homicides in Rosario. “Since there have been criminal statistics records, since 2013, this is the first time this has happened.”

However, part of the strategies used by the national government were criticized for their ability to generate a response from criminal groups based in the city. Furthermore, Santantino explained: “this is a matter of seriousness: understanding that the phenomenon of the circulation of highly harmful violence in the large urban centers of the province, the country and the region, is an extremely complex phenomenon. and it does not depend on the will of a Government alone.”
