Russian peacekeepers ensured the safe entry of more than 500 vehicles and about 2,000 people into Nagorno-Karabakh and back in a day. This was announced on Monday, January 17, by the Russian Defense Ministry.
It is noted that the military personnel are monitoring the observance of the ceasefire regime around the clock at all 27 observation posts along the entire demarcation line in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor.
“In order to prevent possible provocations at observation posts, Russian peacekeepers inspect all vehicles around the clock, and, if necessary, carry out inspections,” explained Pavel Lukyanchikov, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
It is noted that all observation posts are equipped with fortifications “Checkpoint” to protect military personnel from small arms and fragments, as well as to conduct all-round surveillance of the nearby territory.
Block-modular camps were built and comfortable and modern conditions were created to organize service at observation posts, organize everyday life, physical training classes and recreation for personnel.
On the territory of each town there is a gym with artificial turf, a bathhouse, a medical center, a dryer, rooms for cleaning uniforms and leisure, an office, a storage room, a dining room, and a food warehouse.
On December 4, Russian peacekeepers provided security for the replanting of vineyards in remote areas of Nagorno-Karabakh. The transfer began after Russian peacekeepers cleared mines from unexploded ordnance and cleared the area of explosive ordnance in the village of Khramort, Askeran region.
In November 2020, Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the participation of Russia, signed an agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The document, among other things, provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict, the transfer by Armenia to Azerbaijan of a number of regions of the region and the return of refugees to Karabakh.
