Please use a sense of proportion

Of course, the police must take any bomb threat seriously and of course safety comes first.

There is no question that it was necessary to evacuate the station building, but the fact that the police also closed streets more than a hundred meters from the station was probably a little overcautious. When there was a bomb threat a day later against the train station in the city of Salzburg, the police were content with a much smaller exclusion zone.

Closing the station area and the park in front of it would probably have been enough in Linz – the traffic disruptions would not have been eliminated, but they would probably have been less. Despite all the necessary caution, a sense of proportion is also necessary.

CONS

No!

Linz city center was in a state of emergency for almost three hours. Nothing worked anymore, trains and public transport came to a standstill, neighboring company buildings were evacuated, and more than 2,000 people had to wait outside. Hundreds of police, rescue and fire departments were deployed and, with the help of search dogs, combed the area for the bomb that had been announced by email – which fortunately turned out to be a non-starter.

So it’s all for free? Not at all. The executive must take every threat seriously, even if experience shows that the probability of a real bomb being found is very low. Because at some point there is always the first time – with fatal consequences in this case.
