A life sentence will be threatened for particularly serious crimes against the sexual integrity of all minors. This is stated in the amendment to the bill on life imprisonment of pedophiles-recidivists, published in the legislative support system.
The corresponding amendment was supported by the State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation. The amendment proposes to delete the restriction according to which life imprisonment is established for the commission of especially serious crimes against the sexual integrity of minors under 14 years of age.
Thus, it is proposed to extend the effect of the article to all victims under the age of 18 years.
Earlier, on January 13, the speaker of the lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, said that the State Duma was discussing a list of priority bills that would be considered by the State Duma by February 1, including a draft law on life imprisonment for pedophiles.
The bill was submitted to the State Duma by the United Russia party and the first vice speaker of the Federation Council, secretary of the general council of the political force Andrei Turchak on September 10, 2021. After that, on December 21, the State Duma adopted the bill in the first reading.
As Maria Spiridonova, a member of the Association of Russian Lawyers, stated in an interview with Izvestia, the proposed bill will be positively received by society. According to her, reports of crimes of a sexual nature against minors give rise to heated discussions about the need to apply extraordinary measures of criminal law to criminals.
