Tests of the Kinzhal hypersonic complex have been completed in the Arctic. As sources in the military department told Izvestia, they were recognized as successful. Testing of the complex in the northern latitudes went on for several years and ended at the end of last year.
As part of this work, both combat launches and combat training patrols were carried out by MiG-31K carrier aircraft of the Aerospace Forces. During the flights, aviation equipment and equipment were checked in difficult climatic conditions, including the impact of low temperatures. The actions of the MiGs with hypersonic systems were provided by the aviation of the Northern Fleet. Its anti-submarine aircraft inspected the test areas for the absence of extraneous targets, took photos of target positions before and after the strike.
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov has already reported that the launches of the “Daggers” were carried out at test sites in various climatic conditions, including in the Arctic. In particular, during these tests, the tasks of experimental combat duty of aircraft with a hypersonic missile were worked out. He also noted that the airfield network is now actively developing, which ensures the expansion of the geography of the complex. In turn, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in December last year said that the first aviation regiment of MiG-31K fighters with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles had already been formed as part of the Aerospace Forces.
Moreover, the MiG-31K were seen not only in the north, but also in the south. The military department reported that last summer two MiG-31K aircraft were temporarily deployed to the Russian Khmeimim airbase in the Syrian Arab Republic. Their crews made training flights in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, during which they completed the tasks of mastering the airspace of a strategically important region.
In Syria, carrier aircraft “Daggers” also actively interacted with naval aviation. The Ministry of Defense reported that the Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft flew together with the MiGs. One of the main goals of the exercises was to work out the actions of crews and equipment in high temperatures.
