From the heart
No! It is much more important that the gift comes from the heart and that you have taken time to think about what the other person wants and what thing you could make him or her happy with.
That shows attention. It is not important how much a gift cost – even if some people incorrectly use that as a benchmark. I’m not talking about making gifts yourself – but in difficult economic times it doesn’t have to be the latest iPhone or the 800 euro voucher. Better let yourself be surprised!

For the joy
A result that is not necessarily expected given the subdued economic mood at the moment. Different rules apply for Christmas.
You can laugh at the kitsch, be ignorant of the religious background or complain about the commercialization of the holidays – the joy of receiving a thoughtful gift from the other person makes even hardened cynics soften. Of course, you don’t have to spend money with both hands at Christmas – especially if you don’t have it. But the holidays are certainly not the time to skimp.
