The announcement of the prize created a sensation in South Korea and the websites of bookstores and publishers crashed as thousands of people tried to buy their books.

At least 1.06 million copies, including e-books, had been sold as of Wednesday morning following the Nobel Prize announcement last Thursday, three major bookstores and retailers: Kyobo, Aladin and YES24 told AFP.
“There is an unprecedented sale of Han Kang’s books. It is something never seen before”Kim Hyun-jung, spokesperson for the Kyobo bookstore, told AFP.
The online bookstore Aladin indicated that the sales of Han’s books multiplied by 1,200 compared to the same period last year and also boosted the purchase of works by other South Korean authors.
