The examination failed to establish the poison in the case of the poisoning of Muscovites with watermelon

Experts were unable to identify the poisonous substance that killed an elderly woman and her granddaughter after drinking a watermelon bought in Moscow’s Magnit. This was reported to Izvestiya by the lawyer of Anton Kotov, an employee of the disinfection service of the supermarket, who had previously been arrested in the case of the death of two Muscovites.

According to lawyer Andrey Sergeev, the experts concluded that death was caused by poisoning with a destructive poison with a primary lesion of the liver and kidneys. According to another examination, the substances that exterminator Anton Kotov used in his work were not found in the blood and internal organs of the dead.

“It was not possible to establish the exact substance. Thus, at the moment, the involvement of the disinfector Kotov in the alleged crime is not supported by anything, and the experts in their conclusions confirm that Kotov is not guilty here, ”said the defender.

Earlier, the Presnensky Court of Moscow extended Kotov’s house arrest until March 10. An employee of Magnit was arrested for two months on charges of providing services that did not meet safety requirements and negligently caused the death of two or more people. Later, the measure was relaxed – Kotov was placed under house arrest. He did not admit his guilt.

The poisoning of a 61-year-old grandmother and her 15-year-old granddaughter, who bought a watermelon at Magnit, became known on September 10. The relatives were taken to the hospital, where they died in intensive care.

Three days later, Rospotrebnadzor said that the cause of the poisoning could be a substance for pest control – the destruction of insects, which was used to process the store. Later, the examination confirmed that ethylene glycol and Cygathrin were present in the bodies of both victims.

In the following days, about 10 more people with poisoning were taken to hospitals. The Investigative Committee called the violation of the rules for disinfestation in the supermarket a priority version.
