The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, took a dip in the hole on the eve of Epiphany, although there are extreme frosts in the republic. The politician announced this on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, January 18.

According to the politician, for him bathing in the hole at Baptism is a special sacrament and purification. He added that on these holidays it is important to enrich yourself spiritually, and such bathing helps to recharge your batteries for the whole coming year, the 360 TV channel reports.
Nikolaev pointed out that there are ice holes for water intake and special fonts in 10 districts of the republic and the city of Yakutsk. Bathing was organized in compliance with all sanitary standards and the necessary safety measures.
Earlier that day, infectious disease specialist Nikolai Malyshev noted that one should not swim in the hole in case of diseases of the cardiovascular system and during an exacerbation of chronic diseases.
According to Malyshev, it is worth preparing the body for the January bathing in the hole since the summer, the risk of getting sick after Epiphany bathing is minimal for hardened people.
The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the Epiphany on January 19. On the night of Epiphany, many believers traditionally plunge into the hole.
