The electoral board of the Justicialista Party will have until tomorrow to receive challenges to the lists presented by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Ricardo Quintela. A stage of examination now opens for the candidacies presented by “Primero la Patria”, of the former president, and “Federales a cry of the heart” of the governor of La Rioja, before making official the nominations for the internal Peronism of 17 November.
The PJ schedule
According to the schedule of the PJ electoral board headed by Juan Manuel Olmos, there will be time until this Thursday to replace names in the event that any of the PJ candidacies are challenged. On Friday, the lists and candidates will be made official and the number of each list will be drawn, taking into account that both Cristina and Quintela reserved number 2.
Only on Friday, November 8, will the deadline for submitting ballots to be added to the polls expire. There are more than three million members of the PJ in a position to vote in the internal election that will define the new head of the PJ at the national level. In order to carry out this election, the PJ representative, Eduardo López Wesselhoefft, requested by letter to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Lisandro Catalán, a total of 6,000 ballot boxes.
But in addition to the ballot boxes, funds are needed for the printing of ballots and for the person who will be in charge of the internal PJ. The national government, adhering to the axiom “there is no money”, does not guarantee for now the availability of budget items or all the ballot boxes requested to guarantee the completion of the internal vote.
To make it clear that the internal election is a one-way path in Peronism, this week the local tables of the PJ of “Cristina Presidenta” will be deployed in different parts of the country. “There is a legal and institutional obligation of the government to guarantee internal democracy in the parties, beyond the president’s verbal violence. This must be defined as quickly as possible in a democratic manner,” they warn from the former president’s camp.
