The production of the third and final season of the series Good Omens was suspended after accusations of sexual abuse against its creator Neil Gaiman. It’s now confirmed that Amazon’s fantasy drama will end with a 90-minute episode rather than a full third season.
The fantasy comedy series Amazon Prime Videobased on the book by Gaiman and Terry Pratchettfollow the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant). The new season was to begin filming in Scotland and was canceled
The series was renewed for one final season in December 2023.
The cancellation came after Gaiman was accused of sexual assault by two women in July, claims the writer has strongly denied.
The accusation against Neil Gaiman
According to an article and podcast by Tortoise, Gaiman was the subject of a police investigation in New Zealand. The allegations span two decades and come from women with whom Gaiman allegedly had consensual relationships. However, the women claimed they experienced what the publication described as “rough and degrading” sex that they claim was not always consensual.
A woman claimed that Gaiman sexually assaulted her within hours of their first meeting in a bathroom at his New Zealand residence. The second woman met Gaiman during a book signing session and began a consensual relationship with him two years later.
He alleged that there were occasions when he subjected himself to rough and painful sex “that he neither wanted nor enjoyed” and that on another occasion he did not consent to sexual relations.
Gaiman strongly denied any accusation of non-consensual sex. and then responded to the post by saying: “New Zealand Police have not accepted your offer of help over a woman’s complaint in 2022,” something he says reflects its lack of substance.
