Orthodox Christians in Russia celebrate the Epiphany on the night of January 19. Traditional Epiphany bathing took place throughout the country. According to RT, in some regions of the country they were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, in others they were held in compliance with sanitary requirements.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not take part in Epiphany bathing this year. According to Peskov, the president “preferred to heed the recommendations of church representatives and not to plunge all the same in connection with pandemic conditions,” the Zvezda TV channel notes.
