A printed version of the first-ever Michelin gastronomic guide for Moscow has gone on sale in Russia. This was announced on Thursday, January 20, by Deputy Mayor of the capital Natalia Sergunina.
“Sales in Russia began on January 20, and a little later they will start on the foreign market. It is important for us that in addition to the establishments noted by experts, the printed version includes information about our gastronomic culture and the city as a whole. Fans of the guide from around the world will be able to get to know the capital of Russia as a modern and hospitable metropolis, and at the same time take note of interesting restaurants for a future trip,” said Natalia Sergunina.
The printed edition has more than 120 pages, and all materials are provided in Russian and English. The gastronomic guide includes 69 establishments, which were announced at a solemn ceremony in the Zaryadye Concert Hall in October last year.
Even then, the international director of the Michelin guide, Gwendal Pullenek, noted the talent of Moscow chefs at the presentation. He said that local culinary specialists managed not only to preserve the gastronomic heritage, but also to bring a new look at cooking there.
Moscow became the first city in the CIS, whose restaurants were included in the famous guide. You can purchase a printed version of the guide on the Yandex.Market platform. And abroad, the guide will soon be available on Amazon. Restaurant descriptions will also be published on the Michelin website.
The Michelin Guide has been in production since 1900. It is considered one of the most famous and influential gastronomic guides in the world. The process of “ranking” restaurants is confidential: experts travel anonymously and compile a report on the establishment visited. Later, on its basis, restaurants are evaluated at the main office in Paris.
On October 14, the ceremony of presenting Michelin stars to restaurants and cafes of the city took place in Moscow. Seven establishments received one Michelin star: Selfie, Beluga, White Rabbit, Grand Cru, Biologie, Sakhalin and Savva, while Twins Garden and Arrest-Chef’s Table received two Michelin stars. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at the opening of the ceremony that over the past ten years the number of restaurants in Moscow has tripled and they have stepped into the ranks of the best in the world.
