The Chelyabinsk police are checking the city’s schools due to reports of mining. This was announced on January 20 by the press service of the city administration.
“Today, January 20, law enforcement agencies are checking received false anonymous reports about threats of mining educational institutions in the city of Chelyabinsk. With the involvement of specialists, inspections of the premises of schools and the territories adjacent to them are carried out. Explosive devices and other threats were not detected,” the message says.
The city administration specified that due to information about the threat of explosions, classes in all schools were canceled. The corresponding decision was made by the regional operational headquarters for coordinating the actions of law enforcement agencies.
Since the beginning of the year, a wave of evacuations of educational institutions has swept across the country due to reports of alleged mining. So, on January 12, 151 schools were evacuated in Yekaterinburg, as well as a number of universities.
In addition, threats of mining were received by six Moscow schools. At the same time, according to Izvestia, Ukraine was mentioned in the text of the messages. The messages came to the e-mail of educational institutions and were handed over to the police. Law enforcement officers did not find explosive devices in the schools.
Information security researchers from the T.Hunter company concluded that the reports of school bombings did not come from Russia. After conducting their own investigation, they stated that most of the calls were made from the territory of Ukraine.
As suggested in an interview with Izvestia, a professor at the Department of Digital Forensics of the Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman Vitaly Vekhov, the mass mailing of messages about mining could be carried out by ill-wishers “to annoy Russia”, or by schoolchildren who decided to extend their holidays or do not want to write test papers.
