Three months after having removed funding from projects carried out by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), The Government ordered modifications in the National Cinema Promotion Law. In detail, changes were made regarding the subsidiary cargo that national feature films will receive.

Thus, through Decree 984/2024, the libertarian administration defined that subsidies for films without special interest will be settled in a 70% of gross box office production until reaching the cost of a medium-budget national film. On the other hand, those with interest will do so 100%.

The Government established changes in subsidies to INCAA

The decree, signed by the president Javier Milei, the chief of staff Guillermo Francos and the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation Federico Sturzenegger, establishes changes in the Law for the Promotion of National Cinema. “It is necessary to adapt the regulations to the current situation as part of public policies aimed at to promote the quality of films that are seen and considered by the Argentine public“, they justified in the Decree.

“The maximum amounts and limits to be received as a total sum for subsidies will be applied to national films whose commercial release is after July 24, 2024″, they detailed about the application of the measure.

On the other hand, the ruling party also established that “to reach the maximum amounts established above, those subsidies received for exhibition in movie theaters will be computed. plus those that correspond for other forms of exhibitionin accordance with the regulations established by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts in its capacity as the authority for the application of Law No. 17,741 (to 2001) and its amendments, without exceeding in any case the limits established in article 31 of these regulations“.

Regarding its decision, in the text of the Decree the Government justified: “Establish certain criteria to allow safe management greater efficiency of public resources destined by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts to subsidize national films, as well as linking their granting to quality, exhibition possibilities, audiences and the recovery of funds granted over ideological preferences”.

Mirtha Legrand’s message about the INCAA
