The court in St. Petersburg arrested in absentia the alleged killer of Igor Talkov

The Petrogradsky District Court of St. Petersburg arrested in absentia Valery Shlyafman, who lives in Israel, is accused of killing singer Igor Talkov in 1991. This was reported on January 20 in the joint press service of the city courts.

“A preventive measure in the form of detention for Shlyafman was chosen for two months from the moment of extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation or from the moment of detention on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the report says.

Singer and musician Igor Talkov was killed during a concert of pop stars in the Yubileiny sports palace in St. Petersburg on October 6, 1991. The specific circumstances of his death are still unknown.

The investigation found that Talkov was killed in a shootout. The prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case against the director and security guard of the singer Aziza Igor Malakhov, but the examination concluded that the last shot was fired by the concert director Talkov Shlyafman. Malakhov died in 2016.

In November 2018, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced the resumption of the investigation into the murder of Igor Talkov. The singer’s son called it “another mockery” of relatives and fans of the Russian artist. Then, in November 2018, a former employee of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department and a witness to the murder of Talkov told the details of what happened.

On January 20, 2021, the investigator explained in court that Shlyafman was on the international wanted list and lives in Israel without a break. At the initial stage, he interfered with the investigation, testified that the shot was fired by Malakhov, persuaded witnesses to give similar testimony, hid the revolver in the toilet bowl in Talkov’s dressing room. In addition, Shlyafman’s guilt is confirmed by investigative experiments and expert opinions.
