It happens that on October 18, “I Want Blood” was released, the fourth solo album by Cantrell and the Art Media stage was the epicenter that brought together fans of the movement who enjoyed every riff and melody that he released, with songs like “My Song”, “Down In a Hole” and “Siren Song”.

Late at night, the former guitarist and main composer of Alice in Chains, detonated the place with songs like “Vilified”, “Off The Rails” and “Psychotic Break”, where the rock legend toured a setlist full of songs , which, although they were the kickoff to present his latest studio album for the first time, also served to cover more than three decades of the artist’s career who performed as a soloist in the country for the first time.

The night was undoubtedly magical for rock lovers, as Cantrell’s distinctive style, which combines dark and melodic riffs, vocal harmonies and introspective lyrics, transported his audience to the ’90s and reminded them why Alice in Chains is one of the most influential bands in grunge and alternative rock.

Alice in Chains and the rise of grunge

Cantrell founded Alice in Chains in 1987 with vocalist Layne Staley, bassist Mike Starr and drummer Sean Kinney. The band was noted for its fusion of grunge, heavy metal and alternative rock, and Cantrell’s guitar style, laden with distortion and melody, became one of the group’s hallmarks.

The band’s debut album, Facelift (1990), met with considerable success, especially with the single “Man in the Box.” However, it was their second album, Dirt (1992), that cemented their place in rock history. Dirt dealt with dark themes, such as addiction, despair and death, and became a benchmark for grunge.

Cantrell was the album’s primary songwriter, and his collaboration with Staley created deep, melancholic vocal harmonies that would define the band’s sound.

Solo career

In 1998, Cantrell released his first solo album, Boggy Depota work that continued to explore the sounds and themes that characterized Alice in Chains. His second album, Degradation Trip (2002), was a tribute to his friend and bandmate Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002. Degradation Trip is a somber and cathartic album that reflects Cantrell’s grief over the loss and internal struggle of Staley, and is considered one of the most personal and emotionally intense pieces of his career.

After more than two hours of the show, the end came with “Brighten”, “Got Me Wrong” and “Rooster”, to put an end to their time in Buenos Aires and close with a flourish the long-awaited reunion of one of the rock legends with the local public.
