What is the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty to which Argentina joined in the G20

The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, thrown in the G20 summit on September 18already has the accession of 81 countries, including 19 of the 19 members of the G20, with the latest inclusion of Argentinawhose accession was under negotiation.

What is the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty to which Argentina joined in the G20

The initiative, proposed by Brazilseeks to accelerate efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

In addition to the countries, the Alliance includes the European Union, African Union24 international organizations, 9 financial institutions and 31 philanthropic and non-governmental entities. The signatories commit to implementing specific actions adapted to their realities, such as “Sprints 2030”, whose objective is to eradicate hunger and extreme poverty through large-scale policies.

One of the main objectives of the Alliance is to benefit 500 million people through income transfer programs in low and lower-middle income countries by 2030, in addition to expanding school meals for 150 million children in regions with poverty and hunger. Funds are also planned to be raised through multilateral development banks.

The governance of the Alliance It will be linked to the G20, but will not be limited to its members, and is expected to be operational by mid-2025. Meanwhile, Brazil will provide temporary support to coordinate the essential functions of the initiative.
