The Government established that over-the-counter medications may be displayed on pharmacy shelves. He did it through Decree 1024/2024 published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette.

The regulations focus on differentiation between medications that require a prescription and those available over the countere, as well as in the conditions of its commercialization. For this reason, it maintains the obligation that they be sold in pharmacies and in the presence of a pharmacist, those who require it. While it allows online sales, but with certain restrictions to ensure patient safety.

Sale of over-the-counter medications

  • Gondola display: These medications can be displayed directly on pharmacy shelves, facilitating consumer access.
  • Restrictions: They must be in a closed box, with their leaflet and can only be sold to people over 18 years of age.
  • Other establishments: the sale of some over-the-counter medications (antacids and pain relievers) is allowed in establishments that are not pharmaciesbut ANMAT can expand this list.

The measure indicates that it seeks to guarantee that the consumer receives clear and truthful information about the products and that they have the freedom to choose, always prioritizing their health and safety.

Finally, he maintains that the decree seeks to achieve a balance between facilitating access to medicines and guaranteeing consumer safety.
