Argentina receives financing for US.7 billion from the IDB and the IBRD

In the case of the IDB, it undertakes to financially assist Argentina to cooperate in the execution of the “Comprehensive Early Childhood Development Program” for an amount of US$700 million. According to the contract, the main objective of this program is “to contribute to the promotion of early childhood development of vulnerable children.”

This program will be developed in three areas: i) Improvement of economic assistance policies and programs for households with pregnant women and children up to FORTY-EIGHT (48) months; ii) Improving access of the vulnerable population to early childhood services; iii) Improving monitoring of early childhood policies and programs.

The execution of this program They will be carried out by the Ministry of Human Capital, the National Social Security Administration (ANSES), the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family and the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies.

Contracts with the IBRD: what they consist of and what projects they will be for

In the others two published contract models, essential procedure to approve the financing, the IBRD is committed to assisting Argentina in order to cooperate in the execution of the “Project to Support the Transition towards a Sustainable Electric Sector in Argentina”, for an amount of US$500 million. Added to this is the “Project to Support the Sustainability and Equity of Public Transportation” for another US$500 million.

In the first case, the objective is to “strengthen institutional capacities to rationalize electricity subsidies” and foresees the execution of the project in two parts:

(1) Project Management, development of capacities and instruments to promote sustainability in the sector, which in turn is subdivided into 1.1 Project Management and 1.2 Strengthening of institutional capacities and process to improve the sustainability of the sector, and (2) Financing of rationalized electricity subsidies for users with validated eligibility criteria. In this case, these amounts will be administered by the Ministry of Energy, which depends on the Ministry of Economy.

In the second case, the objectives are to improve the affordability of the automotive public transport for vulnerable populations in the ARGENTINE REPUBLIC and the sustainability of the automotive public transportation system in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA).

This Project provides for the execution of THREE (3) parts: (1) Social Rate Program and Integrated Rate System, (2) Institutional Strengthening and (3) Project Management. In this case, the administration will be in charge of the Ministry of Transportation, which also depends on the Ministry of Economy.
