Command back
The new dog ownership law applies from December 1st, and the dog ban at Pleschingersee applies from January 1st. At first glance, the two new regulations have nothing to do with each other – and yet they are causally related. Because it is doubtful that the latter would come if it had not been for the fatal dog attack on a jogger a year ago. This incident has caused a negative connotation for many people, which is understandable but cannot be objectified.
Steyregg is very strict with its ban on dogs during the warm months – after all, muzzles and leashes are mandatory at bathing facilities anyway. However, locking the dogs – and therefore their owners – away from this leisure idyll in winter is clearly overstepping the mark. The local council would show greatness if it reversed this decision.

When in doubt for people
Yes, a year-round dog ban is a drastic measure and all dog owners who follow the rules are rightly annoyed. But: If the Steyregger local council is to be believed, there are too few of them. Dogs not on a leash that jump at walkers and “just want to play anyway” are apparently not uncommon.
The spacious area should also encourage you to deliberately overlook the pile left behind by your loved one – at least now and then when it is particularly cold or you are in a hurry.
All of this may seem like a minor annoyance given the problems of our world. Nevertheless, the recreational area at Pleschingersee is primarily there for people. And if things don’t work out with the dogs, a community should also be allowed to opt for the people if in doubt.
