Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov on January 24 commented to journalists on the statement of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, who called a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights (HRC) and a journalist terrorists.
According to a Kremlin spokesman, the Russian authorities “would prefer not to comment or interfere in any way” in the background and “clarification of these relations.” Such situations can only be resolved in the legal field, for this it is necessary to contact law enforcement agencies that ensure and protect the rights and security of citizens, Peskov said.
He pointed out that statements addressed to journalists and members of the HRC “can only be an expression of the personal opinion of the author of these statements.” Only a court can recognize them as terrorists de jure, the spokesman emphasized.
“There were no such confessions, as far as we know, and there are none at the present time,” he added.
Kadyrov made the corresponding statement in his Telegram earlier that day. Commenting on the situation around the family of the former Chechen judge Saydi Yangulbaev, he said that he considers HRC member Igor Kalyapin and journalist Elena Milashina to be terrorists, and also called on Russian law enforcement officers to “detain the terrorists’ accomplices.”
