A criminal case has been opened in Susuman, Magadan Region, in connection with the death of two people in one of the mine adits of the former Svetly mine, the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) for the Magadan Region reported.
“It was preliminary established that on January 24, 2022, in one of the mine adits of the former Svetly mine, located 18 km from Susuman, two men, born in 1982 and 1995, died as a result of a rock collapse,” the ministry said.
A criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of safety rules in the course of work, resulting in the death of two persons through negligence”). An investigator, a forensic investigator and the head of the Yagodninsky inter-district investigative department went to the scene of the incident, who carried out investigative and procedural actions.
The bodies of the dead were removed from the rubble, and a forensic medical examination is being carried out to determine the cause of death. Investigators of one of the versions of the death of men are considering illegal work on the extraction of precious metal.
On January 22, an accident occurred at a mine in Osinniki, Kemerovo Region, one person died. It was a miner at the first mining site. The man was crushed by the visor of the section.
In early January, the Kremlin website published an order from Russian President Vladimir Putin to amend the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO) to suspend mines for failure to comply with the requirements for degassing during coal mining.
The head of state also instructed to exclude payments dependent on output from the conditionally permanent part of the miners’ salary until February 1.
